Details about Specific Trainings

Training on GIS Mapping and Spatial Data Analysis

  • Usage of the Google Earth application - Navigating in Google Earth
  • Finding & marking places - Getting directions - Creating virtual tours
  • Drawing paths & polygons - Measuring distances & areas
  • Introduction to GIS - Data representation in GIS (i.e. vector and raster)
  • Becoming familiar with ArcGIS (i.e. ArcCatalog, ArcMap)
  • Displaying map features - Editing geographic data - Working with data tables
  • Combining ArcGIS with Google Earth

Google Earth – Very useful to the wider field of natural and social sciences, history, art, engineering and any other topic that has a geographic component.

GIS (Geographic Information System) – Very useful to various research fields (i.e. natural sciences, social sciences, engineering), as well as to a variety of career paths in government, real estate, public health, landscape architecture, community planning, logistics and so much more.

At the end of the seminar, participants will acquire some basic knowledge about GIS mapping and spatial data analysis. They will be able to: a) use the Google Earth application in order to find and mark places, get directions, create virtual tours, draw paths, and measure distances and areas, and b) use the ArcGIS software in order to display map features, add data to a map, edit geographic data, work with data tables, and create data able to be visualized in a Google Earth environment.

TRAINING “CULTURAL AND SOCIAL INTEGRATION OF REFUGEE RESEARCHERS”

29 MARCH 2019, MYTILINI, LESVOS, GREECE

The training will be focused on how to overcome the intercultural differences by looking for similarities. There will be given specific attention on aspects of the organizational in the European research and industrial organizations. For the needs of training the facilitators will use the EURAXESS Intercultural Assistant tool on the EURAXESS Portal - https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/career-development/researchers/intercultural-assistant

Courses of CV creation and application letter

Specific courses are offered using face to face communication to help refugee scientists to create their own CV adapted to their skills and needs and help is given in finding a suitable job and applying for that.

CV creation

Refugees are coming into the University of the Aegean and follow courses of CV creation and E-mail management. At the same time, they get a short introduction of the university structure and objectives. They learn about the procedures to study into the University and get information related to contact persons, the university network or how to join some university social events.

Courses of basic English and German

Potentially transferable models elaborated under the SCIREA project concern the organization of communication and education events with a strong symbolic potential, able to promote the image of women researchers/scientists within the camps. We organize evening’s courses of basic English and German inside the section B of Moria camp. The instructors are women refugees that are scientists or researchers.
