Details about Specific Trainings

Quantitative methods in data analysis

  • Descriptive statistics, Probability distributions, Basic statistical techniques
  • Estimating procedures, Hypothesis testing.
  • Usage of the statistical software SPSS

Very useful to the wider field of social, earth sciences, engineering and life sciences (public administration, sociologists, bank employees, researchers etc).

At the end of the seminar, participants acquire the basic techniques of data mining and analysis. They are able to tabulate primary data, create frequency distributions, cross-tabulate two variables and discover any causal relationship between them. Additionally, they learn how to infer whether the results of a sample can be extrapolated to the population through various tests of significance (t-tests for one and two samples, chi-square tests and goodness-of-fit tests). Finally, participants have the capacity to understand academic articles that present results of quantitative surveys with strict statistical language.

Specific courses are offered using face to face communication to help refugee scientists to create their own CV adapted to their skills and needs and help is given in finding a suitable job and applying for that.

CV creation

Refugees are coming into the University of the Aegean and follow courses of CV creation and E-mail management. At the same time, they get a short introduction of the university structure and objectives. They learn about the procedures to study into the University and get information related to contact persons, the university network or how to join some university social events.

Courses of basic English and German

Potentially transferable models elaborated under the SCIREA project concern the organization of communication and education events with a strong symbolic potential, able to promote the image of women researchers/scientists within the camps. We organize evening’s courses of basic English and German inside the section B of Moria camp. The instructors are women refugees that are scientists or researchers.
